Why StreamYard?
I love connecting with people using live video and have tested several streaming services. My platform of choice, hands down is StreamYard. While I prefer them for several reasons, I’ll share my top ones with you here.
First, you can start with a free account. Although the features are limited for this account, it is perfect for someone just getting started with video content. Also, it’s free forever; so you can take as long as you need to get a feel for how the platform works before ever considering an upgrade.

Secondly, it is intuitive and easy to use. I have tested software that ranged from mildly complicated to “I need a computer science degree to even log on” complicated. StreamYard is incredibly straightforward. You simply create an account with your email address and start broadcasting.
Also, you are not limited to live content only. You can use a prerecorded video. I know hitting that Livestream button is super stressful for a lot of entrepreneurs. You can get around that by recording your content ahead of time, uploading it into StreamYard, and scheduling it as a live broadcast. And if you currently do not have a reliable way to save your recordings, you can simply record your video using StreamYard and save it on their platform.
Now, let’s dig into these top five tips for creating high-quality videos usingStreamYard.
Use a Co-host
Using a co-host allows you to focus exclusively on delivering great video content. It frees you up from clicking all those buttons in the background so you can do what you are best at, which is delivering content, delivering value, and educating your audience. Each account level with StreamYard can add two team members to it. You can have an admin and a cohost.
Your cohost can help you show comments and banners, add and remove speakers, add and remove videos, show brand assets, and use the giveaway tool (more information about this later in this post). The best part is your cohost does all of this while you are still speaking and concentrating on your audience, content, and delivery.
As the owner of the account, you do not have to worry about your admin or cohost having access to information you do not want them to have access to. Based on his or her role, each team member can do specific tasks.

Interact With Your Audience When You Are Live
As a Christian Business Coach, it is imperative that I connect with my viewers and there is no better way to do that than to have a dialogue during live video recordings. I realize that every video you share will not be live. However, when you do live stream, make sure you interact with your viewers. While video generates more engagement than any other content type on most social media platforms, several people watching your video will not comment. Therefore, when someone takes the time to engage by leaving a comment, make it a priority to acknowledge them. What better way to do that than to pop their comment up on the screen in real-time.
This is what truly makes your content a conversation. When you implement tip 1 (using a cohost), effective dialogue is even easier. A good co-host will make sure you do not miss any important comments.
Use the Giveaway Tool
Giveaways and contests can significantly increase your engagement and grow your audience when done correctly and consistently. In order to use StreamYard’s Giveaway Tool, complete the following steps.
- Visit streamyard.com/giveaway

- Select the broadcast you want to host the giveaway on.

- Decide what text your viewers need to type in the comments to be entered into the drawing. For this example, we will use the word “journal.” If you want anyone who makes a comment to get an entry into the drawing, leave the “Match Text” field empty.

- Select “Start collecting comments.”
- Each time someone enters the word journal in the comments, the software will count it as an entry. When you are ready to draw a random winner, simply hit the blue “draw” button.

Create Custom Overlays
Overlays are a powerful strategy to make your video more visually appealing to your viewers. When executed well, you add additional value to your Livestream or pre-produced video.
Because people learn several different ways, you actually help your audience reinforce their preferred method of retaining information. Some people learn best by listening (auditory); while others learn best using visual cues. Overlays help your visual learners.
Overlays also reinforce your company’s brand. Make sure you Include your brand colors and fonts on your custom overlays. You can also add your picture. Take a look at one of the overlays I have uploaded in StreamYard.

Using overlays will also reiterate your message and communicate additional information to your viewer. In the screenshot above, my cohost shared this overlay reminding the audience to subscribe to my channel while I continued to focus on the subject of the video.
There are several tools you can use to create custom overlays. I use Canva. You can also use Poster My Wall. StreamYard has a tutorial on their YouTube channel, that breaks down how to create custom overlays.
Find A Model
Once you decide you are ready to take your video content to the next level, and I assume you definitely do since you have made it this far into this post, set aside some time to review video content you like. While researching other channels, ask yourself a few questions. Do you like how it looks? Are you attracted to the brand colors? Do you like the feel of the video assets?
When I upgraded the look, feel, and quality of my videos, I reviewed online and traditional media. I noted what stood out to me. I even got inspiration from MSNBC and Good Morning America. The point is, do not play it safe. You can go outside of the industry you work in to find inspiration.
Get creative.
I pray this post helps you increase the quality of your video content. If this was helpful, please share it. Also, let me know what tips do you recommend to create better videos. What platforms do you use? And if you are using Streamy Yard, what do you love? What tip can you share to help us?
